This module is equipped with a 60 * 60MM, 2088as. 8 * 8 dot matrix. The area of this dot matrix is four times that of the common 1088 dot matrix. The words are larger and clearer, which is more suitable for long-distance display. The drive board uses MAX7219 chip and is designed with vertical and horizontal interfaces, which can be cascaded horizontally or vertically. Reference routines such as circular word walking are presented.

MAX7219 is an integrated serial input / output common cathode display driver. It connects microprocessor with 8-bit 7-segment digital LED display, bar graph display or 64 independent LEDs. It includes an on-chip B-type BCD encoder, multi-channel scanning circuit, segment word driver, and an 8 * 8 static RAM to store each data. Only one external register is used to set the segment current of each LED.
A convenient four wire serial interface can be connected to a general microprocessor. Each data can be addressed without overwriting all displays during update. MAX7219 also allows the user to select encoding or no encoding for each data.
